Traffic
Zach Nedwell spent years as a commercial fisherman, dragging for groundfish out of Boston. The work was relentless — three days straight without sleep, driving between ports, hauling thousands of fish across the deck.
In that exhausted, altered state, something shifted. Driving back home to Portland from Boston the visuals of people and traffic changed. Schooling, surging, cutting across each other in patterns that mirrored the way fish move through the world without ever realizing it. Traffic is what he saw underwater and above it.
This 16×20 original is one of the most personal works in the collection — a painting born from physical labor, sleep deprivation, and a sudden, strange clarity about the nature of human movement.
